A Failing State
Pakistan is playing the failing state card and it is reaping enormous international aid. Pakistan is a useful strategic player to the external powers in the region and as such as drawn in the largest ever flow of foreign aid – led by Tokyo and the US.
But Pakistan is not the only failing state in the world. Nor is it the only state which poses potential security threats – take Somalia, North Korea and Zimbabwe to name a few.
Global committment to economic and military resources for Pakistan however remain paramount. Is this because the current Pakistani government is not able to secure Pakistans national interests? I wonder how important the strategy of securing Central Asia is for the United States? What are your thoughts on why the United States is paying increasing attention to Pakistan ?

I am posting a map from the Strategic Studies Institute – it highlights a natural gas pipeline route from India through Pakistan and into Iran. This map and the pipeline demonstrates the critical nature regarding the monitoring of Pakistan for the West. It highlights the importance of not letting Pakistan fail.
